These stamps were issued to commemorate the one-hundredth anniversary of the admission of Wisconsin to the Union.
Each stamp is 0.84 by 1.44 inches in dimension, arranged horizontally, printed by the rotary process, in purple, and electric-eye perforated. The central design consists of a reproduction of the State Capitol Building to the right of a scroll showing an outline map of the State around which is the wording “Wisconsin Centennial 1848-1948,” in dark Gothic. Directly above the capitol in the same style lettering is the word “Forward.” Across the bottom of the stamp appears “United States Postage 3c” in white Gothic.
This stamp was first placed on sale at Madison, Wis., on May 29, 1948.
