This collectible plate block of four 10-cent postage stamps was issued by the US Post Office to honor American President John Tyler. In 1840, Tyler was nominated for vice president on the Whig ticket with William Henry Harrison. The Whig campaign slogan was "Tippecanoe and Tyler Too," and the Harrison-Tyler ticket defeated incumbent president Martin Van Buren. Harrison died just one month after taking office, and Tyler became president. Tyler was a strict constructionist of the Constitution and believed that the federal government should have limited powers.
